There are over 1500 dating sites in the UK, however there are less than 10 that are reputable and I recommend. You’ll definitely want to avoid all dating sites run by Cupid PLC and Global Personals, this includes sites like Single Parents Dating, Uniform Dating and Benaughty, they are simply credit card phishing scams in disguise.
The following sites I have used extensively, met partners through them, and so far have never been ripped off or scammed.
Don’t be tempted to save a little money by only taking a single months membership, it will cost you more in the long run since it takes on average 4 to 6 months to find the right partner online. Nothing worth achieving in life happens over night!
1. eHarmony (10/10)
eHarmony is the dating site of choice if you are serious about finding a relationship for life. Their membership pool has swelled in recent years to well over 3.5 million members, and an even split between male and female members keeps everyone happy. Ages on eHarmony range from 25 to 55+, and members on the site are typically looking for dates with the potential to become something more meaningful. This is not a one night stand dating site! The site is by no means a traditional dating site, and an extensive psychological questionnaire needs to be completed before you can get going. But this means their matchmaking algorithm can then match you with members on the site who it deems you are most likely to get on with like a house on fire. Mobile friendly and with prices starting from just £11.95 per month, it’s been one of the UK’s top dating sites for over 5 years now.
£11.95 per month for a 12 month membership
£23.95 per month for a 6 month membership
£26.95 per month for a 3 month membership
£44.95 per month for a 1 month membership

2. Match.com (9/10)
Match.coms thriving members database is home to well over 5 million singles between the ages of 18 and 80. Around 85% of members here are looking for relationships as opposed to casual encounters. The sex distribution is well balanced, with an equal number of male and female members. No matter where you live in the UK, there will be someone on the site living near by. Their mobile apps mean you can flirt on the go, and with prices starting from as little as £12.99 per month and a free 3 day trial available, you’d be a fool not to consider taking a look.

3. DatingDirect.com (8/10)
Just in case you didn’t know, DatingDirect.com has now merged their membership database together with Match.com. The sites are identical in almost every way, but they still maintain their individual branding for the time-being. However, mobile support on Match.com is so much better, so just join match.com instead!

4. MatchAffinity.com (7/10)
MatchAffinity.com is the little sister of Match.com. It’s their attempt at copying the excellent matchmaking algorithm that can be found on eHarmony. And how does it fair? Well over 2 million members between the ages of 25 and 65 seem to think that it’s pretty damn good. Although not quite as popular as eHarmony, the site is still a favourite among UK professionals and over 90% of members are seeking a serious relationship. Mobile support is fantastic with apps for both the iPhone and Android, and prices start from £12.90 per month.
£12.90 per month for a 12 month membership (56% Saving)
£19.90 per month for a 6 month membership (33% Saving)

5. POF (7/10)
Plenty of Fish is the UK’s most popular free dating site. Although free does mean that the site is drenched in some very dubious adverts. The site is a favourite for people between 18 and 35 years old, and around 50% of members are looking for a serious relationship, with the other 50% seeking casual encounters. Some people call this the one night stand dating site, although personally I think that is a little harsh. If you are short on cash, it certainly won’t hurt you to take a look.
Although it is free, to remove the ads and add some useful extra features it will cost you the following:
$81.40 for a 12 month membership
$51.00 for a 6 month membership
$35.40 for a 3 month membership

6. Muddy Matches (6/10)
Muddy Matches is an excelled dating site for country lovers. If you are looking to date a farmer, a horse lover, or anyone who owns a pair of wellies and likes to pull them on, then this is the dating site for you. The site is fairly small, but this is to be expected on a niche dating site. Members are aged from 18 to 80 and the vast majority are seeking serious commitment from a partner. Mobile support is present, and prices start from as little as £6 per month with the 12 month membership, and £18 for a single months membership.
£6.00 per month for a 12 month membership
£9.00 per month for a 6 month membership
£12.00 per month for a 3 month membership

7. MySingleFriend (5/10)
MySingleFriend is home to just over 1 million singles. However this is by no means your traditional dating site where you must first painstakingly craft your dating profile. On MySingleFriend your friends will be writing your profile for you, so you’ll definitely want to choose your friends wisely. Over 85% of members are seeking a serious relationship, and you’ll find that prices start from £14 per month.
£13.17 per month for a 6 month membership
£18.33 per month for a 3 month membership

8. Illicit Encounters (5/10)
Illicit Encounters is a marital affairs dating site. Members here are seeking adultery plain and simple. However, after receiving a number of very suspicious emails from people encouraging me to join this site whilst registered as a free member, this is no longer a site that I feel comfortable to recommend. As soon as I’ve found a more reputable site, it will be removed from this top 10 list.

9. Guardian Soulmates (4/10)
Guardian Soulmates is a popular dating site for readers of the Guardian. And according the Guardian’s readers profile, this means that their members are affluent, food and drink aficionados, well-travelled and finance-savvy. Although from many reviews that I’ve read, the site is full of pretentious individuals. That said, the site is reputable, and many people have found the love of their lives here. Prices start from £32 per month.
